Germany’s oldest city marathon will become part of London Marathon Events (LME), which, with more than 50,000 participants each year on the London Marathon course and exceptionally well-attended associated events, has been setting standards in international distance running for many years.

The Mainova Frankfurt Marathon will now benefit from the expertise, strength and arguably the world’s leading marathon network. The partnership between London Marathon Events and Motion Events, the agency led by Race Director Jo Schindler, reflects a shared ambition to position Frankfurt even more prominently on the global running stage. It marks the beginning of a promising journey for two partners united by more than a shared passion for running.

More progressive, more creative, more powerful: as part of its first international expansion, London Marathon Events will also drive the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon forward in other areas – including marketing, the use of artificial intelligence, media reach, and new opportunities for sponsors.

Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events, said: “The Mainova Frankfurt Marathon is a world-class event with a long tradition and tremendous potential for future growth. It is an honour for us to take on this event and to build on Jo Schindler’s remarkable legacy together with the excellent team at Motion Events. This acquisition marks a significant milestone in LME’s international journey, and we are excited to bring our shared vision to life.”

Race Director Jo Schindler said: “For more than 20 years, my team and I have organised the Frankfurt Marathon with great passion and commitment. I was looking for a partner who would both preserve the spirit of the event and invest in its future. London Marathon Events is exactly that partner, with whom we can take the race to the next level. I could not imagine a better new home for ‘my’ Frankfurt Marathon.”

With his agency Motion Events, Jo Schindler took over the Frankfurt Marathon in 2002. At that time, around 10,000 runners took to the start line over the 42.195-kilometre distance. This past October, the race was sold out with 17,000 marathon runners, while the entire Frankfurt race weekend attracted more than 30,000 participants across all associated events.

For the 66-year-old Schindler, it was always clear that he would only sell his agency to a top-tier organisation with outstanding expertise in international distance running. “We are combining greater international visibility with a clear Frankfurt identity. It was crucial to me that the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon retains its Frankfurt character. Our identity, our values and our strong team remain unchanged – and it is precisely from this foundation that we will take the next steps under the umbrella of London Marathon Events, all with the aim of delivering an even better race experience for every participant,” said Schindler.

One of the first joint projects is collaboration within the “European Marathon Classics”, a European series bringing together eight renowned marathons in cities across the continent: Rome, Madrid, Lisbon, London, Copenhagen, Vienna, Warsaw and Frankfurt.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”682513″ alignment=”right” css=””][dhsv_vc_caption text=”Hugh Brasher (CEO London Marathon Events) and Racedirector Jo Schindler.”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text css=””] A major milestone in the development of Frankfurt’s iconic marathon. / “We will benefit greatly from a partner who both preserves the spirit of the event and invests in its future.” For its 43rd edition, the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon is entering a new chapter in its history.
