Participants in the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon run for a good cause and achieve record results

Donation of €31,886.60 for the project “Der Wünschewagen – Letzte Wünsche wagen” (The Wish Ambulance – Daring to Make Last Wishes Come True) run by the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Landesverband Hessen e.V.
42.195 kilometers with a view of the skyline of the banking metropolis of Frankfurt in Germany’s oldest city marathon: for many runners, this is a dream come true. Crossing the finish line on the red carpet in the Festhalle is an overwhelming experience and a memory that will last a lifetime. The goal of the ASB Wish Ambulance Rhine-Main is to fulfill the heart’s desires of people in the final stages of their lives. The wishes are as varied as the people who have them. The Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) makes these wishes come true. People who have little time left can reach their dream destinations with the ASB Wish Ambulance: back to the stadium, back to their granddaughter’s wedding, back to a concert – for beautiful shared memories.

Driven by the common goal of doing good, participants in the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon once again generated donations in 2025. During the Frankfurt running festival on the last weekend in October, the impressive sum of EUR 31,886.60 in donations was raised for the ASB Wish Ambulance Rhine-Main. Thanks in part to the record number of participants, this is the best donation result since the partnership began in 2017 and once again significantly exceeds the previous record result from the anniversary year 2023.

Race director Jo Schindler presented the donation check on Thursday at the state office of the long-standing charity partner. Jo Schindler: “Year after year, our event continues to grow—and with it, the commitment of the participants. The new participation record is not only a sporting milestone, but also a strong sign of the enormous willingness to donate to our charity project. The fact that so many runners support the project shows how much it has grown close to their hearts – just like ours. This growth highlights the unifying and integrative power that sport can have in our society.”

The project, which is financed exclusively by donations and run by volunteers, has been fulfilling last wishes in Hesse since 2017. For just as long, ASB Landesverband Hessen e.V. has been a charity partner of Germany’s oldest city marathon with this project. Over the course of the partnership, a total of €163,734.83 in donations has already been generated at the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon for the ASB Rhein-Main Wish Ambulance and the “Wish Ambulance – Dare to Make Your Last Wishes Come True” project.

Ludwig Frölich, 1st Regional Chairman of ASB Hessen: “It’s great that the ASB Wish Ambulance Rhein-Main has been the official charity partner of the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon for so many years and has received such extraordinary support. The record result now achieved impressively underlines how strongly this project is anchored in the running community. This commitment would not be possible without the impressive dedication of Jo Schindler and his great team – we owe them our special thanks. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to the many ASB volunteers who, with their tireless efforts, help to fulfill the last wishes of seriously ill people. This support is priceless.

“It is always a great pleasure for us to be part of the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon and to support the runners in the finish area together with our volunteers,” say Michaela Loos and Levana Clasen from the management team of the ASB-Wünschewagen Rhein-Main at ASB Hessen. “The successful cooperation with motion events is always fantastic.”
