Defending champion Brimin Misoi and Buzunesh Gudeta take titles with fine times in Frankfurt

Brimin Misoi and Buzunesh Gudeta won the 40th edition of the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon, producing one of the fastest races in the history of the event. The defending champion from Kenya crossed the line in Frankfurt’s Festive Arena in 2:04:53 which is the second fastest winning time ever in the race. Brimin Misoi became the first runners to defend a Frankfurt title since fellow-Kenyan Wilson Kipsang in 2010 and 2011. Ethiopians Mulugeta Uma and Guye Adola followed in second and third with 2:06:47 and 2:07:44 respectively.

Wind and rain made it difficult for the elite athletes in the final part of the race and with 2:19:27 Ethiopia’s Buzunesh Gudeta missing the course record by just 17 seconds. But it was the second fastest time ever run in Frankfurt and only the second time that the 2:20 barrier was broken in this race. Kenyans Winfridah Moseti and Sharon Arusho were second and third in 2:20:55 and 2:22:07 respectively.

13,258 runners from 115 nations entered the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon, which is Germany’s second biggest marathon. Including events at shorter distances a total of 24,293 athletes were registered.
