More Top Athletes For The Mainova Frankfurt Marathon
Six years ago Tadessa Tola was so close to winning but then she had to concede and only came in second. Now the runner from Ethiopia returns to the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon with the goal of finishing in front of everyone else. Two other athletes, previously successful in Frankfurt, start on October 30th. Lani Ruto from Kenya was second last year and Mamitu Daska from Ethiopia who even won in 2011.
In 2010 Tadessa Tola had taken the lead with nine kilometres left to go but couldn’t shake one competitor, Wilson Kipsang. The Kenyan who one year later would brake the world record passed him and finished with a course record in 2:04:57 hours remaining just 4 seconds above the world record at the time. Tadessa Tola followed with a personal best of 2:06:31.
In the meantime he improved his personal best to 2:04:49 hours. After some problems last year he is now in a promising form for the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon. End of July he won the half marathon at high altitude in Bogota (2600 meters above sea level) against strong competition in 65:16 minutes.
In Frankfurt Tadessa Tola will meet stiff competition. Among them are the Paris winner of last year, Mark Korir (Kenya/PB 2:05:49) and Lani Rutto. The Kenyan also knows the feeling of being only second. Last year he came in only eight seconds behind Sisay Lemma and improved his personal best to 2:06:34. On October 30th Lani Rutto wants move one place ahead.
„We expect a top-notch and exciting race for our jubilee edition. In the women’s competition a new course record that stands at 2:21:01 at the moment could be in the cards“, says Race Director Jo Schindler.
Eyes will be especially on Peres Jechirchir. The half marathon world champion from Kenya will meet an experienced Frankfurt runner at her marathon debut who already won this race. Mamitu Daska was the winner in 2011 in a personal best of 2:21:59 which still stands today. In 2012 she came in third in 2:23:52, a year later she was fourth in 2:23:23. Her three fastest marathons all took place in Frankfurt.
Among the opponents of Peres Jepchirchir and Mamitu Daska will be Fate Tola and Sarah Chebet. The Ethiopian born Fate Tola (LG Braunschweig) will run her first marathon with a German citizenship which she holds since June. Her personal best is a 2:25:14. Sarah Chebet from Kenya showed good from in spring when she won the Enschede marathon in 2:27:59.
